AREA GUIDE

Where is Cabo Roig?
Cabo Roig is a coastal residential area on Orihuela Costa, in the municipality of Orihuela, in the Vega Baja del Segura comarca of Alicante province, on the Costa Blanca South of Spain. It lies between La Zenia to the north and Dehesa de Campoamor to the south. It takes its name from the red-rock headland at its centre.

What is Cabo Roig known for?
Cabo Roig is known for its headland, its historic watchtower, its small marina and a string of sheltered coves and sandy beaches. A cliff-top coastal promenade runs through it and links it on foot with La Zenia and the rest of Orihuela Costa. It is one of the longest-established and most settled residential areas on this coast.

What is Orihuela Costa like?
Orihuela Costa is the coastal part of the municipality of Orihuela. It runs for around 16 km from Punta Prima to Campoamor and includes Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Villamartín. It has coves and beaches, cliff-top promenades, golf and year-round services. The historic town of Orihuela, with its cathedral and old quarter, is about 30 minutes inland.

What amenities are nearby?
Cabo Roig has supermarkets, cafés, restaurants and everyday services, with more restaurants around the marina and along the coast. La Zenia Boulevard, one of Spain’s largest open-air shopping centres, is about five minutes’ drive away. Torrevieja, about 15 minutes north, has hospitals, a larger range of services and a seafront promenade.

How far is Cabo Roig from the airport?
Alicante–Elche Airport and Región de Murcia International Airport are both about 40 minutes’ drive away, with direct access from the AP-7 and N-332. Alicante has frequent year-round flights to the UK and across Europe.

Can you fly to the Costa Blanca from the United States?
Yes. United Airlines is due to launch three weekly services between Valencia and Newark from June 2027. Newark is a United hub, so there will be onward connections across the United States. Air Transat already runs a year-round Valencia–Montreal service. Valencia Airport is about two hours’ drive north of Cabo Roig. Alicante–Elche Airport, much closer, offers connections to the US through major European hubs.

What towns are close to Cabo Roig?
La Zenia and Playa Flamenca are just to the north, and Dehesa de Campoamor and Pilar de la Horadada to the south. Torrevieja is about 15 minutes away, and the Mar Menor resorts of San Pedro del Pinatar and Lo Pagán about 20 minutes. Cartagena, Murcia and Alicante are all within about an hour.

What is there to do nearby?
The coastal promenade through Cabo Roig is good for walking and running all year. The marina offers sailing, paddle-boarding and diving. Tennis and padel clubs are close by. Golf courses within about 15 minutes include Las Ramblas, Real Club de Golf Campoamor, Villamartín and Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. The pink salt lagoons of the Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja Natural Park are about 20 minutes north, and the Mar Menor is about 20 minutes south.

Are there international schools in the area?
Yes. El Limonar International School has a campus in Villamartín, about 10 minutes’ drive away. There are further bilingual and international options in Torrevieja, the wider Vega Baja and Murcia.

Who buys in Cabo Roig?
Buyers come from the Costa Blanca’s established international buyer pool alongside Spanish purchasers. They include people moving here full time, second-home owners and extended families who come back every summer. Large properties close to the sea, like this one, especially appeal to families who want space for several generations.

What is the climate like?
The Vega Baja coast is one of the driest and sunniest parts of Spain, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Summers are hot and dry, with sea breezes along the coast. Winters are mild and bright, and daytime temperatures often reach the mid-teens or higher. This is why so many residents live here all year rather than only in summer.
